Paint Party Friday " The Heat of the Night"

We're  in a pretty sick heat wave here in British Columbia, with a total fire ban everywhere!   I am not a heat baby and haven't been one since I was a teen when days were spent at the beach swimming! Nights we slept outside on the veranda, where a large mattress  was fixed through the heat of summer.
Sleep overs were such fun, as was sneaking out in the middle of night to meet up with boys.  Such excitement ducking behind bushes as the sun came up. Hiding from adults we feared might see us and report back to our parents! How we figured out the hook up without cell phones is beyond me....but we always did!! Parents were none the wiser back then!
Back to reality, old age, and leaving a tub full of water to dunk into at three AM the middle of the night....cooling down enough to fall back to sleep until nature again calls! Oh how times have changed!
We are slower and quieter these days. Most of the  talking happens in my head or on the page. We sit in the dark lately, just to avoid the heat of the lights. No worries though, rain is around the corner. Then again.... heat.....ho hum....
This is a wonderful video of legal graffiti in Brazil, done for a great cause!

I have been playing with mixed media. Revamping hair, features and clothing on catalogue pages. It's been total bliss creating these pieces even in the heat! They are inspired by  "The Daily Painter" Katherine Jeanne Woods whom I deeply admire!

This week I  wonder if Beardo and Cupcake are enjoying the music festival they're  attending,  even though it's one of the hottest  places  in the province!

I dream of a world without violence towards others! Especially this week, where spousal abuse has left one woman in critical condition  and the other  dead within days of each other.
Recently I worry about all the  forest fires in our province, especially with my kids being in a hot mountain village!
I hope I eventually develop my style to a place where I actually love it!
How about you? What's your naughty childhood memory? What do you #1 Wonder about, #2 Dream about #3 Worry about #4 Hope for at the moment!

I've been thoroughly enjoying our heat wave this week! Even though it's hot for the Northwest, it is still wonderful compared to the heat and humidity in other places I've lived. I'm loving your colorful mixed media paintings. Very fun! Sorry I'm too tired to answer your questions tonight! :-) Happy PPF!!

I love seeing all these paintings in different colors. I love your story about the hot summers. Such a sweet time it was..... Just remember that worry is a useless emotion. all it does is causes stress and it will never change the situation.

Great post! My naughty memory was leaving the tap on and letting the basin overflow, just for the fun of it! Perhaps parents shouldn't leave three year olds alone at home! Hugs, Valerie

Lovely works, and interesting to see them in different colors. Many times it's incredible how they change.
Memories from childhood, I'm a capricorn so I'm the responsible one. We had lots of fruit gardens in our neighbour hood, we visited and didn't leave empty handed so to speak.
I wonder about why the heck they can't stop fighting in the middle east. It seems they want to fight.
I do most things I want to do, so dreaming is not a big thing in my life. If you have children, there will always be enough to worry about, but I try not to. What do I hope for, well most times I hope to make a good piece of art, but in this writing moment I hope none of us (handyman and me)will break a leg. He has removed our front door stairs, to make new ones.

These mixed media pieces are different, but still very much you. It's lovely to see them in all the different colours. My wonder and worry at the moment are about the same: wondering what the hell is wrong with people shooting airplanes out of the sky and making fun of it, and worrying about where this is going to lead. And my hope and dream is also about this: hoping this doesn't escalate, and dreaming that people can finally find peace with eachother, no matter what their beliefs and nationalities are....

As always, your words are thought provoking and your artwork is wondrous. I was blessed with a marvelous childhood. We weren't rich, but we never lacked for anything. My dream is to become a successful full time artist. My immediate worry is to be able to support my two girls through college, and everything about their well being. My hope is to get to travel around the world with my wife someday. May the Lord help us all make our dreams and hopes a reality. as well as help us leave our worries to him. Happy PPF and Blessings, my friend!
PS - Stay cool working on your artwork, and may your family come home safe.

I am loving the heat of the summer-but then, I also have the luxury of central air in the house(so nice when having to cook and clean)and AC in the car. I love this different direction your art has taken this week. I'm going to check your link. It sickens me when I hear of such spousal and even child abuse...but that's as much as I can say without hopping onto a soap box about the subject. Hope things cool off for you soon!

Sounds like you are cooking over there. I love the heat....ironic really as I live in the wrong part of the world! I loved reading your memories of teenage summers. I noticed a different style in your faces and reading on discovered your new experimentation with different mixed media. It works so well as you always have such powerful messages to go with your images.

I really love these paintings! I say they're my fave I've seen thus far. It speaks to a great stylistic shift

1. I wonder if I'll ever feel/be as happy, hopeful, and confident as I have in the past
2. I dream about Having more inner substance, energy, resources (and outer I suppose) to do something useful for the world/life
3. I worry about people who refuse to grapple with the larger complexities in politics/life such as: who is fighting whom and why. Nothing like overprivileged complacency to make the world just a greeeeat place, baby!
4. I hope to Find more resources & ways to make money so as to stop having to set up that awful art tent in that dead town

I enjoyed your post so much, Sherrie. I hope Beardo and Cupcake are enjoying the concert/festival and the fire stays far, far away. Here in Virginia we could not survive without air conditioning because we not only have heat we have humidity. But I noticed yesterday that it was over 120 in Baghdad and areas in the middle east where we still have military. How hot that must be in all those uniforms. Loved your art work. Looks like lots of fun.

As usual - your blog is such a wonderful place to visit. I am very much a hot weather person - which is good since I live in Beaufort, SC. I would not like to live with Canadian winters - even though I love the places I have visited. I think you do have a sweet style and I love your use of color. I just recently rediscovered Katherine's website - love her art as well. Hope the heat breaks soon -

I love all your lady paintings here and as always am fascinated to see them in different colour combinations. What a good idea to use catalogue pages in this way.
Your questions are so interesting and have me thinking.

Hi Sherrie. Excellent post. Love your photos and artwork. I try not to be a worry wart but sometimes because of events that happen in this world my mind start playing games and I really start to worry about what happens next. My heart is filled with sadness for all these people gone and their families. Such a tragedy. What happens in this world is what really triggers a lot of emotion from me. When I was a teenager, I went swimming nude-how about that?! tee hee. Oh year and as an adult, I did it again. hahaha. I never learn. lol
Have a great day.

The older i get the more i hate the heat... I have a tub of cold water ready as well....
Great work!..... I worry about all my kids, their happiness and success...
I wonder about what my son would say to me if he could talk....
I dream about quitting my job to be able to paint more...

Aww..I'm so happy I inspire you, Sherry. These are soooo fabulous. Wow!! Completely different style than what you usually do, but still so you. Are you going to continue on in this direction? I'd love to see more. :)

Your daughter is very pretty..those eyes could melt hearts. Gorgeous. Hope she enjoyed the concert.

I feel the same way you do about summer..the older I get, the more I'd like the skip over this season. The heat weighs me down, and makes me feel tired. And, the cost of central air..UGH. We got a $600 bill for July a couple years ago. !!! It's generally over 100F here every day, bright sun, no rain for months at a time. Crazy, endless HOT. Meh. It hasn't been too bad this year, but I'm so over it. Bring on the Fall weather, and sweaters. :)

You always have lots of fun, colorful art that makes me smile.

My naughty childhood memory was also sneaking out to be with my boyfriend. I wonder about whether I'll ever be successful with my art. I dream about doing that very thing. I worry about very little. I hope for a long, healthy life. See, you always make me think, too!

HELLO Giggles baby! ;-)
Lovely post + art. I especially love the part where you begin with "we are slow and quieter these days"... such truth in that paragraph. We've been in a heat wave here for the past week also. Today is the FIRST day where we can actually breathe. And rain too. So welcome. Wonderful to visit here. Keep painting, m'dear! xx
